Teen charged with killing girl, wounding others at city park
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis police say a 17-year-old boy has been charged with second degree murder and other offenses in a shooting that left a 16-year-old girl dead and five other people wounded.
Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said Friday that the boy is charged in the death of 16-year-old Alana Tello. He also faces 10 counts of attempted murder and 10 counts of using a firearm during a dangerous felony.
Police said Tello was killed and five others were wounded when a group of people wearing bandannas over their faces opened fire Tuesday night at Zodiac Park. All the victims are from Mississippi.
The Commercial Appeal reports the boy appeared in juvenile court for a detention hearing Friday. A judge will decide if he’s transferred to adult court. His lawyers declined to comment.
