Spotty Showers Today, Storms Return on Sunday
Saturday Forecast for May 8th:
Rain showers and isolated weak storms will show up today, but stronger and possibly severe storms will return on Mother’s Day. Some late morning and early afternoon storms could pop up too on Sunday, but evening storms are looking likely for most of us and those are expected to be the biggest threat. Gusty winds will be the main concern, but hail and tornadoes will also be in play. I know it is starting to sound like a broken record, but please stay weather aware during your Mother’s Day outdoor plans. Let’s hope some drier and calmer weather returns by the end of next week. Chief meteorologist Joel Barnes will be in on Sunday when the storms become dangerous. Have a great Mother’s Day weekend to all the Mom’s out there!
TODAY:
Expect mostly cloudy skies on Saturday and it will be quite humid. Some isolated rain showers are expected in the morning but the storm threat is very low. The rain will move out into the early afternoon hours. Highs will reach the low 70s and the winds will shift direction and start to come out of the south. Chances for rain sit around 50%. Saturday night will be warm with lows only falling down to the low 60s.
SUNDAY:
Storm chances will return on Sunday in the afternoon and some are expected to be strong. The severe weather threat will also increase as the day goes on and some strong storms are expected in the evening as the next cold front will pass through. Highs on Sunday will reach the mid 70s but expect mostly cloudy skies during the day as well. Winds will pick up speed as the cold front approaches and sit between 10-20 MPH out of the south most of the day. Sunday night showers will continue and possibly a few storms will linger overnight. Lows should drop down to around 50° behind the front by Monday morning.
NEXT WEEK:
Clouds and showers will stick around for the first half of the week. Highs will only reach the mid to upper 60s due to northerly winds and lows will be dropping down to around 50° each morning. Some thunderstorms will be possible Monday morning and returning again Tuesday evening. Showers and storms remain in the forecast on Wednesday before we finally see some dryer weather and sunshine returning on Thursday and Friday. Overall the severe weather risk will be low next week due to the cooler weather and generally northerly flow all week.
