TBI: Officer involved shooting under investigation in Shelby Co.
SHELBY CO. Tenn.,— Officer involved shooting under investigation.
According to the TBI, at the request of the 30th District Attorney General Steve Mulroy, agents are investigating an officer involved incident in Shelby County.
The incident occurred around 9:00 am Saturday morning in the 4100 block of Rosswood Avenue. A deputy approached a parked vehicle as part of an enforcement action.
The deputy attempted to stop the driver from leaving the scene. The situation escalated, resulting in the man driving off while dragging the deputy approximately 100 yards.
The deputy fired his service weapon at least once at some point during the incident striking the driver. The driver proceeded to drive about a half mile before stopping the vehicle and subsequently died on the way to the hospital.
The deputy was also hospitalized for a variety of serious injuries.
The TBI is continuing to investigate this incident to determine what events lead to the shooting. TBI will collect evidence, and conduct interviews. Investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for review.
The TBI does not release the names of officers involved in these types of incidents.
