Dyer County Sheriff’s Office investigating the death of inmate

PRESS RELEASE FROM DYER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office investigates the in-custody death of a Dyer County Jail inmate.

On April 16, 2026, correctional officers at the Dyer County Jail observed an unresponsive inmate and immediately initiated emergency response protocols. Dyer County EMS was contacted and responded to the facility, transporting the individual to a local emergency room, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The next of kin was notified and the deceased has been identified as Jaylien Kimble, 23, of Dyersburg, TN.

Upon notification of the death, the Dyer County Criminal Investigation Division and the Dyer County Medical Examiner’s Office were immediately notified in accordance with standard protocol.

Based on early investigative findings, including the presence of a traumatic head injury, the Dyer County Criminal Investigation Division is working this case as a homicide.

Investigators are actively continuing to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and gather statements regarding this tragic event.

The Dyer County Medical Examiner’s Office has ordered a full autopsy. Mr. Kimble will be transported to the Middle Tennessee Regional Forensic Center, where a thorough and independent examination will be conducted.
