TBI: Missing person investigation leads to neighbor’s arrest

CANNON CO., Tenn.— Neighbor arrested in missing person case.

According to information received from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a neighbor has been charged in the case of missing 58-year-old Laura Beth Powers from Cannon County. 

Powers was reported missing to Woodbury Police Dept. on March 3, and was last seen at her home located at West Adams Street on February 23. A silver alert was issued for Powers on March 5.

At the request of 16th Judicial District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI agents began a criminal investigation into Powers’ disappearance. During the investigation, TBI agents uncovered information leading agents to identify Powers’ neighbor David McCormick (DOB 09/29/1968) as the individual responsible for her disappearance.

McCormick was placed on the TBI Most Wanted list on July 1, and later that evening was located.

He was arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Homicide. McCormick was booked into Cannon Co. Jail, and is being held on $1,000,000 bond.
