Driver arrested for Lexington wreck that claimed life of mother and son
UPDATE (10/25/23): Bayron Gomez-Perez was scheduled to be arraigned this week in Henderson County General Sessions Court. According to court staff, his case has been reset to November 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. Gomez-Perez remains in custody at the Henderson County Jail. Dilday-Carter Funeral Home in Huntingdon has posted obituaries for both Courtney Turner and Nolan Turner. According to the obituaries, joint funeral services for Courtney and Nolan will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday October 27, 2023 at First Baptist Church Huntingdon. Interment will follow in McLemoresville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Huntingdon on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — An arrest has been made following a tragic crash in Lexington that resulted in the deaths of a mother and her son.
According to a press release from the Lexington Police Department, 25-year-old Bayron Gomez-Perez is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, eight counts of vehicular assault, driving under the influence, driving on the right side of the roadway and violation of open container law.
The release confirms that 11-year-old Nolan Turner and his mother, 33-year-old Courtney Turner, both died from their injuries. Nolan Turner was pronounced deceased at the Henderson County Community Hospital following the wreck, while Courtney Turner died Sunday at a hospital in Nashville. 7-year-old Ella Turner also received injuries and was transported to Le Bonheur in Memphis, according to information included in a GoFundMe fundraiser.
According to the release, on Wednesday, October 18, Lexington Police and several other emergency services entities responded to the 600 block of North Broad Street, regarding a serious injury crash with entrapment. The release states that evidence suggests a white 2002 Dodge Van was southbound on Broad Street, crossed the lanes of travel and struck a northbound white 2020 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Courtney Turner. The two-vehicle wreck involved a total of 12 occupants, 10 of which received various injuries. Details on the health conditions of the remaining passengers have not been confirmed.
The release states that Gomez-Perez, identified as the driver of the Dodge Van, was released from Skyline Medical Center in Nashville on Saturday, and was immediately taken into custody by Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Gomez-Perez is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, October 24 in Henderson County General Sessions Court.
The release states that the Lexington Police Department has been assisted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Henderson County Sheriff’s Department throughout the investigation, and the case will be prosecuted by Attorney General Jody Pickens and staff of the 26th Judicial District.
