First ‘State of Black Jacksonians’ event to be held this Saturday
JACKSON, Tenn. — The New Jackson Madison County Voters Council will host its first annual State of Black Jacksonians event on Saturday, February 24.
It will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Jackson-Madison County Library.
The State of Black Jacksonians event will feature a panel discussion on important issues impacting the African American community in Jackson and Madison County.
Panelists will discuss topics such as health, gerrymandering, voting rights, and the educational system.
Attendees can ask questions of the panelists and light refreshments will be provided.
“A lot of the questions will be geared towards minorities, but we feel that what affects the minority affects the majority, and in Jackson-Madison County, that’s really not a far stretch. Why? Because, according to the 2020 Census just completed, 46.5% of this populous is white, 45.5% of the populous here in Jackson city is black,” said Willie Ozier, President of The New Jackson Madison County Voters Council.
The State of Black Jacksonians event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
