JACKSON, Tenn. — With tonight’s storm approaching, we have some ways that you can make last minute preparations.
This storm is expected to have high winds, possible hail, and thunderstorms that will make its way late this evening.
We reached out to Jackson Fire Chief Don Friddle for some tips for residents.
“Make sure that they have clothes available, shoes available as well,” Chief Friddle said. “If they have access to any head protection — you know, helmets, bicycle helmets, any kind of helmets — to be important to make that arrangement as well.”
With this storm coming later this evening, it is important to have a form of communication to update you.
It is important to already be in safety rather than hear the sirens and go.
“Make sure they have batteries, flashlights good. And have a safe space in the home. And if they don’t have a safe space in their home, they need to identify a shelter that they can possibly go to,” Friddle said.
This storm may cause more damage than what we are used to. Meteorologist Moe Shamell says more on what to expect.
“A lot of trees go down, powerlines go down, and power outages I think is gonna be a huge problem first thing in the morning,” Shamell said. “So just be prepared for that, prepare yourself, make sure you’re charging everything now.”
Also, this is a good time to help your neighbors and to know what their plan is in this storm.
“Another thing is, make sure to know where the gas meter is on your house, also your neighbor’s house, because there’s a potential for gas leak should a structure become heavily damaged,”
Make sure to also bring in outside pets and furniture.
