UPDATE (6/4/24): Comptroller’s report details Spraggins investigation, Crockett Mayor responds

UPDATE (6/3/24): Crockett Mayor staff member arrested for theft

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — While details are limited at this time, officials confirm the suspension of a local county employee.

Crockett County Mayor Gary Reasons confirms Michelle Spraggins has been suspended without pay.

Spraggins has been employed as a secretary in the Mayor’s Office.

Sources say the suspension is possibly related to an audit by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, who released a financial report earlier this year stating in part that proper documentation was not always on file to support purchases in the Office of the County Mayor.

We reached out to the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, who stated they could not provide further comment as an investigation remains ongoing.
