City of Henderson holds election for new mayor, city aldermen
HENDERSON, Tenn. — The City of Henderson is holding a mayoral election.
Candidate Terry bell worked in both Chester and Madison County Government and also served in the military.
“The reason I am running is to serve the people and what they desire, not just what I want. In doing that, one of the things I’ve found is that sometimes there are things we can improve as far as the beauty and the looks of the city,” said Bell.
Candidate Mark Barber who works as Vice Mayor of Henderson, as well as city alderman, shares why he would like to run for this position.
“If this is where I can be best used then that’s what I would like to see happen. Over 10 years of experience with the city through various leadership opportunities within the community. So, anything that I can do to help this community that we’ve fallen in love with,” said Barber.
Both candidates were asked to share an idea they hope to bring while in this position.
“I’d like to continue to provide an opportunity collaboration within our city. Have an opportunity for people to voice their concerns. We’ve met a lot of needs already as far as providing needs for our residents we have a great financial system in place as far as city budget,” said Barber.
Barber also shares having better communication between residents and city leaders.
“We need to make sure our young people are able to gain those skills, and whatever it is that’s their talent and ability, to support that. So that we prosper as a people and we’re able to move forward as a community and prosper,” said Barber.
Bell mentions improving opportunities at TCAT and treatment services for residents who may abuse substances.
Both candidates also shared their concerns for improving local business in Henderson.
Election day is August 1, and Henderson residents will also have the chance to vote for city aldermen.
The winning candidate will succeed current Mayor Bobby King.
