Local Girl Scouts host National S’mores Day event

JACKSON, Tenn.—Girl Scouts gather to celebrate with one of America’s favorite treats.

Today, local Girl Scouts, their families and girls from grades K-12 gathered to celebrate National S’mores Day.

The event took place at the Girl Scout Leadership Center located at 1007 Old Humboldt Road in Jackson.

The tasty event began at 10 this morning and lasted until 2 this afternoon.

The girls participated in games and crafts and of course roasting marshmallows for s’mores.

The Girl Scouts hosted this unique event as a way to honor their former troop members who are credited with the discovery of the sweet treat.

“So what we do here at Girls Scouts, we build courage, confidence, open opportunities for girls to do things that they might not be able to do,” said Shelley Hanes, Membership Manager.

The first-ever S’more recipe was presented in a 1927 Girl Scout guidebook and was called a “Some More”, the name was later changed.
