Sporting event draws school athletes from all across West TN

JACKSON, Tenn.—Athletes gather at a local university to participate in a unique sporting event.

The West TN Cross Country Jamboree was held in Jackson this morning.

Nearly 700 athletes showed up at Union University to compete in the event.

Cross country teams from elementary, middle and high schools from all across the West Tennessee area participated in the event, with nearly 60 teams competing overall.

Participants were divided into age groups and competed in 2.2, 1.5, and 0.8 mile meets.

Awards were presented to the top 15 high school and middle school finishers. They received a card to redeem a Top 15 Fleet Feet Jackson T-shirt. Elementary participants in the top 20 also received medals.

“We’re excited. We’ve got a good group. I believe they’re going to do some good things. I’m excited. And some of these kids, we have good relations with when they were in third grade and fourth grade, so the foundation is there and we got a good relationship with them,” said Duquan Nolan, Cross Country Coach at Dyersburg Intermediate School.

The unique jamboree was hosted by Madison Academic High School in Jackson.
