Gibson County Fair brings cattle show, more to West Tennessee
TRENTON, Tenn. — The Gibson County Fair had an eventful night full of rides and cow shows.
For some fair goers, this is a moment to show off their hard work and practice.
McKinley and her brother Avery have been cow showing for the last 2 years.
“Well it’s kind of different some people start earlier than others, but me and Avery got our cows in agribition in last month and we’ve been training with them a few days in the week,” said McKinley Keeton, fair attendee.
The two both competed in different categories this evening.
“Showmanship is all about yourself like how you set up your cow, and how do you lead it, but in commercial it’s all like how your cow acts–how you set it up,” said Avery Keeton, fair attendee.
Another contestant, Major Peevyhouse, has been doing this for a year now and shares that during her training she was taught not to go to the barn alone when training, along with other lessons.
“You kind of just like practice walking them. To halter break them you have to get them through this halter thing and then you put it on. Usually the first time with their halter is the worst because they like to sling you around. Usually after that they kind of get it and then you leave it on them for a little bit and that’s usually how you train them,” said Peevyhouse.
Kira has been coming to the fair for years and says each time is better than the last for her.
“I always get excited when there’s new things because it’s always more fun,” said Kira Hanna, fair attendee.
The Gibson County Fair will have another fun night for residents on Friday, August 30 beginning at 6 p.m. with truck and tractor pulls being an attraction.
For those who pay to park at the Gibson County Fair, those funds will go towards the Gibson County Fire Department.
