FHU’s ‘One More Light’ event helps raise awareness about suicide prevention

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Studies show suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 10 to 24 and one local university is raising awareness about this issue.

Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson held its 3rd annual ‘One More Light’ event. One More Light is an event designed to raise awareness about suicide prevention.

Those who attended had an opportunity to reflect and remember one or more people who have been affected by suicide by designing a luminary and placing it around the Bader Oval.

Organizers of this event say they can hopefully reach those who need support.

“A lot of people are struggling with suicidal thoughts and they feel very alone and so it’s just really important that we all value life and I think normalize discussions about how important this topic is,” said Nathan Judd, university counseling center director for FHU.

The event was open to the Freed-Hardeman campus, as well as Henderson and surrounding communities.
