Sea of Lights memorial to commemorate 9/11
CROCKETT CO. Tenn. — A 9/11 sea of lights memorial was held Wednesday evening to mark a day that will never be forgotten.
Officials say it’s about remembering those who died and their families. Every department in Crockett county was represented in the sea of lights.
The EMS director for the Crockett county ambulance service, Joseph Powell, says they’ve been holding this tribute for several years now. It’s gone from 15 to 20 emergency vehicles to around 60.
The route proceeded through Friendship, Maury City, Bells, and Gadsden before ending at Alamo court square.
“It’s about remembering those that made the sacrifices during 9/11. You know you had first responders you had police, fire, ems, all that lost their lives to save those individuals. As well as the people that were involved with it themselves that were citizens. 9/11 was a big push towards emergency services, it’s important to keep doing these things so we don’t forget that,” shared Joseph Powell.
A prayer and moment of silence was held following the sea of lights.
The public was invited to attend to help honor the nearly 3-thousand people who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
