Election Day: Voters cast their ballots, share why voting is important
JACKSON, Tenn. — The presidential election is underway and local residents are taking the time to cast their ballots.
Tuesday is the final day to make your voice heard at the polls. Residents have been spotted going to their designated locations to cast their vote. Remember to vote you must bring a valid photo identification, passport or gun registration to vote.
Remember that you can report voter fraud and other issues by texting “TN” to 4-5-9-9-5.
“This morning it has been very very good. It’s steadier than it has been in a long time. We have a lot of voters coming in for this election and it looks like we’re going to do really good this time,” said Monika Thomas Steele, poll pad operator.
Polls will close tonight at 7 p.m.
Earlier Tuesday, we also reached out to voters at the municipal center in Medina. We asked them their thoughts on why it is important to vote and participate in this election. Voter Terry Buckley shared that it’s a freedom to be able to exercise the right to vote.
Being a citizen of Tennessee and Milan, Buckley held that it’s a privilege to have the possibility to vote and that everyone should exercise their privilege.
We also heard from voter Chris Gilley.
“There’s people who have fought and died for the right, for us to be able to have that privilege to be able to get out to vote,” said Chris Gilley, voter.
A common theme amongst voters was gratitude for the chance to participate in their civil responsibility.
