Missing Humboldt man found safe
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. –A missing Humboldt man was found safe on Wednesday after an active search by multiple agencies. Austin Gearin, 25, had been missing since December 3 before searchers found him Wednesday.
Law enforcement said they were able to use “the latest technology and investigative techniques” to locate Gearin. Humboldt Chief of Police Kenny Rich II said it was the cooperation of multiple agencies that allowed them to obtain a successful outcome. “We could not have found Austin Gearin without the help of multiple agencies that provided resources for us the past few days. The cooperation between multiple agencies is something we train and it came together today for a successful outcome,” Rich said in a released statement.
Family members waited at the command post on Wednesday as searchers combed the wooded area near the highway. His sister said Gearin is a father and they wanted to get him back home to his daughters and family.
“He is a father. He does have two beautiful daughters. The youngest one is one year old,” said Marissa Greene, sister.
The Humboldt Police Department was assisted by multiple agencies, including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, in the search effort. They conducted an active ground search, which included the use of K-9 teams, to search near where Gearin was last seen. On Wednesday afternoon, the Humboldt Police Department announced they had safely located Gearin.
“The cooperation between agencies is to be commended,” said Rich.
Greene said the family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone that helped locate her brother safely. “We would like to say a big thank you to Humboldt Police Department, Humboldt Tennesee, Humboldt Fire and Rescue, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Gibson County Sheriff’s Department and any other personnel for helping us organize efforts and locate my brother, Austin Gearin. He has been found safe and alive. Also a big thank you to everyone who shared our posts, kept their eyes and ears open and helped in any way. We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.”
