Former public information officer for Madison County Sheriff’s Office retires
JACKSON, Tenn. — One former public information officer celebrated an outstanding achievement Thursday morning.
Tom Mapes was the public information officer for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for eight years with Sheriff John Mehr and a community outreach specialist for two years with Sheriff Julian Wiser. He was surprised by friends and loved ones this morning at the J. Alexander Leech Criminal Justice Complex in downtown Jackson.
Mapes shares that it’s been a joy meeting so many wonderful people over the years.
He also shared his plans after retirement.
“I always use Proverbs 3:5 and 6 as my life’s verse to trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he’ll direct your paths, and for 83 years it’s been that way so I’m just gonna see what his direction is next,” said Mapes.
Mapes also shared that his family has asked him to ‘chill out’ for January and February and wait to see what spring brings.
