City of Henderson to provide warming shelter

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF HENDERSON:

With another cold front bringing dangerously low temperatures to the region starting Sunday, January 19th, the City of Henderson is preparing to set up an area in City Hall as a warming center.

City Hall will be open to “anyone who needs a warm place to stay during this cold front.”

Effective Sunday, January 19th through Tuesday, January 21st, any citizen needing emergency shelter should contact Dispatch at 731-989-2201 and an officer will be dispatched to unlock the building.

A warming center (also a heat bank or warm bank) is a short-term emergency shelter that operates when temperatures or a combination of precipitation, wind chill, wind, and temperature become dangerously inclement.

Their paramount purpose is the prevention of death and injury from exposure to the elements.
