One organization is working to promote economic growth with local tourism

JACKSON, Tenn. — One organization is helping build up our economy by promoting local tourism.

The Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association leverages cultural, historical and natural attractions here in West Tennessee. This, in turn, drives local business revenue and creates jobs.

One of the attractions the organization promotes is the Casey Jones Village here in Jackson.

“It is one of the main driving forces for Madison County tourism, you know, we have a lot of wonderful tourism partners throughout our region, but Casey Jones Village has definitely been like the long standing one that everyone knows about, which helps tremendously to generate those tax dollars that we need,” said Page Keith with the Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association.

They have a ‘triptastic’ feature at the village, which helps you plan your adventure through Southwest Tennessee.

“Just last year, by direct visitor spending here within the 8 counties, we generated about $4.6 million, which — broken down — roughly is about 492 dollars in tax savings for each household throughout the 8 county region that we serve,” said Keith.

The organization serves several areas including Haywood, Henderson, and Madison counties. It’s important that we support our local tourism attractions by sharing events, welcoming visitors and promoting our small businesses.

“Tourism is amazing, and everybody should just get out and explore and see what our city and our region has to offer. You don’t have to go to Nashville or Memphis to go, and do, and shop and spend money. Stay right here in our local community and promote the wonderful things that we have going on here,” said Keith.
