‘If you’re in it, so are we’: Local restaurant keeps its doors open amid winter storm
JACKSON, Tenn. — One local restaurant heats things up while local residents are shivering in the cold weather.
Exit 87 BBQ shared a post on Facebook sharing “If you’re in it, so are we” encouraging residents to come grab a bite.
Khaley, assistant manager for Exit 87 BBQ, shared that when it snowed in January, they made sure to be open for those that would stop by. They also make sure that their workers got their safely.
“Our boss comes and gets us if the weather is like this; if we don’t feel comfortable with driving. Which, most of our roads are pretty safe to drive in, until it refreezes. I’ve been here now for about five years with them, love it here,” said Khaley.
They were open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but with weather like this they make sure to shorten the hours so workers can get home safe. However, that doesn’t stop business.
“It’s a lot slower than what we’re used to so, it not really that hard to prepare for we just try to be as quick as we can — as we get them in and out so they’re not in the cold,” said Derrick, truck driver.
While open, workers are serving truck drivers that stop by or a few of their regulars.
“You know, I’m from New York so we’re used to this stuff, but everything down here closed down and that’s what I’m not used to. Even New York city we go to school in this stuff and the roads are already ready but this town here it’s messed up around here. Nothing open, everything closed can’t get nothing to eat. I don’t know what’s going on down here,” said Tanquana, regular.
Leaders with Exit 87 say the very cold temperatures won’t stop them. They’ll be open for the rest of the week.
