Jackson firefighter loses home in fire

MILAN, Tenn. — A local firefighter loses his home in a recent house fire.

On the morning of March 5, local fire departments responded to a house fire on Stinson Street in Milan. The residence was the home of a firefighter for the Jackson Fire Department.

“I’m really overwhelmed by the community and the outreach that they’ve given us and the love that the community has given us, even the Jackson Fire Department. I live in Milan and there was quite a handful of guys that came out during the fire to help, not to mention the firefighters from Milan and the surrounding area. It was a pretty awesome feeling,” said Josh Lockhart, homeowner.

Lockhart says his wife, youngest son, and two pets were in the home when the fire ignited but no injuries occurred.

“It’s still fresh so I don’t know what time might hold but it seems that everybody taken care of. We have family friends that’s really stepped in to help out. I feel like God has a plan for us and I want to do my best to follow it,” said Lockhart.

Lockhart explains how the family is moving forward with living arrangements.

“We have some friends that lived across the street and they had a house that was vacant and they provided that to us and it’s been quite good considering everything that could’ve happened. It certainly beats staying in a hotel room,” said Lockhart.

Due to the recent rise of fires in the region Lockhart offers some effective fire prevention measures to consider.

“Just have your inspections done as you should. We don’t know exactly what caused the fire but we have assumptions. I’m assuming it’s electrical in some form or fashion,” said Lockhart.

The Lockhart family aims to move forward one day at a time. If you would like to donate to the Lockhart family, you can Venmo ‘Crystal-Lockhart-11.’
