Carroll County Mayor discusses upcoming community improvements
HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — One West Tennessee county gives us a budget status and a look at what’s next for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler has positive expectations for exponential growth in the community.
Mayor Butler tells us they’re on track with budget plans and a recent decision to hire a grant administrator secured grants to help keep finances in good standing.
“We’ve got a $2 million dollar grant for the Civic Center, it’s called a Connected Communities Facility grant, so the whole purpose is how can we expand,” Mayor Butler said. “We’re renovating some communities, took that on to build new buildings. We feel like we’ve got the facility there.”
Civic Center improvements include broadband connectivity, telehealth opportunities, and educational opportunities, so the space is available in more ways for the community.
“Another big grant is out at the airport,” Mayor Butler said. “We’ve got two grants we’re working on out at the airport as we typically do with the airport pairing both state and federal funds and local fund to take on those projects.”
What makes the airport unique is the ability for law enforcement to fly out with the Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter, and an air ambulance service. The airport also has hobbyist and commercial tenants.
“If you look at the data in West Tennessee as a percentage, we’re one of the fastest growing counties in West Tennessee. We’ve been very successful on the economic development and industrial recruitment front,” Butler said.
Major investments that help the community thrive are various industrial plants like Granges, Dynamix Casting Fluxes, Hydro Gear, VP Racing Fuel, and Pottery Direct, that have provided hundreds of jobs to live work and have a better quality of life.
“People get here and they sense that community support, they sense that safe community, they see the good school and that leads to the growth. It’s a pretty simple model when it boils down to it, but it’s just a community that works together that’s on mission together that shares the same values,” said Butler.
Each of the five special school districts in Carroll County are moving forward in literacy numbers, SRO officers, and leadership development.
