First phase of ‘Village Commons’ breaks ground with strong community collaboration

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE HUMBOLDT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:

First Phase of “Village Commons” Breaks Ground with Strong Community Collaboration

HUMBOLDT, TN (April 29, 2025) — A new vision is coming to life in Humboldt with the launch of  Village Commons, a dynamic development designed to enhance community life, fuel economic growth,  and strengthen local partnerships. Spearheaded by The Riverstone Group, a Brentwood-based  commercial real estate firm, and made possible through exceptional collaboration with the Humboldt  Chamber of Commerce and the Gibson County Industrial Development Board (IDB), this project  marks the first phase of a larger, transformative plan for the region.

Village Commons is a 40-acre master-planned development within the Humboldt Industrial Park.  With strategic input, leadership, and support from the Chamber and IDB, the project is rooted in a  shared mission: to foster economic vitality while preserving the city’s welcoming, small-town spirit.

The first phase of Village Commons will bring a Tractor Supply Company store to the site. With over  2,000 locations nationwide and an average of 18–20 employees per store, Tractor Supply is the largest  rural lifestyle retailer in the U.S. and ranks among the top 250 on the Fortune 500 list.

“This project wouldn’t be possible without the strong partnership we’ve experienced with the City of  Humboldt, the Chamber, and IDB,” said David Atchison, Founder of The Riverstone Group. “It’s been  a refreshing experience to work side by side with community leaders like Kingsley Brock, Greg Pillow,  Amanda Love, and Alex Smith to move this project forward.”

“The Village Commons represents a major step forward for Humboldt and Gibson County,” said  Amanda Love, Executive Director of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce. “By bringing in retail,  restaurants, and more, we’re not just building new storefronts—we’re filling in long-standing gaps and  creating a vibrant hub that keeps our residents shopping, dining, and investing right here at home. The  Humboldt Chamber is thrilled to welcome Tractor Supply Company as the first of many to break ground  in this exciting development.”

Building on Momentum

Located within the growing Humboldt Industrial Park, Village Commons is strategically positioned to  serve the expanding employment base brought by major corporations like Tyson Foods and FedEx. The  development aims to meet community needs with expanded access to retail, professional services, and  lifestyle amenities.

“This development is about smart growth—meeting the needs of a community that’s already gaining  momentum thanks to new jobs and new opportunities,” said Atchison. “We see Village Commons as a  natural next step for Gibson County’s progress.”

A Purpose-Driven Approach

At the heart of this initiative is The Riverstone Group’s commitment to “creating places, not just  buildings, that become meaningful parts of the community fabric.” Village Commons is envisioned as a  place where residents can live, gather, and thrive together.

Looking Ahead

The Riverstone Group is already in active discussions with additional retailers, restaurants, hotels, and  service providers interested in joining the Village Commons development. This first phase is just the  beginning of a long-term investment in the future of Humboldt and Gibson County.
