PRESS RELEASE FROM FREDERICK AGEE, DISTRICT ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR THE 28TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT:
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — On May 13, 2025, in the Circuit Court of Gibson County at Humboldt Law Court, the trial of the State of Tennessee v. Courtney Dickey (46 year-old father to co-defendants), Courtez Dickey (22 years old), and Jaylan Dickey (21 years old) proceeded on the charges of First Degree Murder or alternatively, Murder in the Perpetration of a Felony, Attempted Murder, Employing a Firearm during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Courtney Dickey only).
On the second day of trial, all three co-defendants pled to Reckless Homicide. Courtez and Jaylan Dickey also pled to Aggravated Assault; Courtney Dickey pled to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. All three received an effective sentence of 20 years, with 10 years as a Range III Offender to serve in the Tennessee Department of Correction on the Reckless Homicide conviction. Courtez and Jaylan Dickey, due to their age and lack of prior criminal history, will be eligible to be furloughed to a long-term inpatient recidivism-reduction program approved by the Tennessee Department of Correction.
While in T.D.O.C., Courtney Dickey must complete Moral Reconation Classes, Alcohol and Drug Counseling, and Vocational Training. After service of their 10-year sentences, all three will be under strict supervision with State Probation and Parole for an additional 10 years, with mandatory drug testing and required employment.
On December 27, 2022, at a residence in Humboldt occupied by Sammy, Teresa, Marquisa, and Antonio Turner, Courtney Dickey and his two sons, Courtez and Jaylan, conspired together to shoot into the home, due to a dispute with Antonio Turner.

Due to the witness testimony and available evidence to be presented leading up to the second day of trial, the State and Defense agreed to enter the aforesaid pleas.
“Marquisa Turner lost her life due to the senseless, dangerous actions of the Dickeys. Although our Office was prepared to take this trial to the end for the jury to decide the fate of the defendants, after evaluation of the all of the relevant factors of available witnesses and evidence, both for the State and the Defense, we agreed to the pleas to hold the defendants accountable for their actions, ensure they received homicide convictions, and be required to have incarceration sentences for those convictions. Our Office hopes that this provides some closure for the Turner family, who lost a dear loved one that day. We are grateful for the hard work of the Humboldt Police Department and our staff in their investigation and prosecution of this case.”
– Frederick H. Agee, District Attorney General
“This was a circumstantial case, and the Humboldt Police Department is satisfied with the resolution. We secured felony convictions, and the community now knows the Dickeys were responsible for this violent act. The Dickeys will either be incarcerated or under the supervision of the Tennessee Department of Correction for the next 20 years.”
– Lt. Tony Williams, Supervisor Criminal Investigation Division.
This case was prosecuted by District Attorney General, Frederick H. Agee and Assistant District Attorney, Nina Seiler.
