PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF DISTRICT ATTORNEY GENERAL FREDERICK H. AGEE:

Press Release: Update on Officer Involved Shooting

After review of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s report regarding an Officer Involved Shooting in Haywood County, Tennessee which occurred on Saturday, October 19, 2024, our Office will not be pursuing charges against Sheriff’s Deputy Cory. D. Vaughan of the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department.

By not complying with law enforcement’s attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle, Xavier D. Evans, put the lives at risk of Haywood Countians, Deputy Vaughan, and Evans’ passenger Alandis D. Delk, who was struck by Deputy Vaughn’s single shot. Although there may be concerns for the safety of Deputy Vaughan leaving his patrol vehicle under the circumstances, he was justified in discharging his firearm.

Lastly, we want to thank TBI for their diligent work in this matter and to everyone that cooperated with TBI in providing our Office with the facts and evidence we needed to make this determination.
