Trenton, TN — On Monday, December 8, 2025, Gibson County Mayor Nelson Cunningham officially announced his campaign for re-election as Gibson County Mayor. Mayor Cunningham, a Republican, will seek another term dedicated to strong, safe, and forward-moving leadership across Gibson County.

“It has been an honor of my life to serve the citizens of Gibson County. I’m running for re-election because the job isn’t finished — and this county deserves steady leadership, honest decision-making, and someone who puts people first every single day,” said Mayor Cunningham.

During his time as Mayor, Nelson Cunningham has focused on strengthening Gibson County through effective leadership, collaboration, and responsible stewardship.
Key areas of emphasis include:

Public Safety
•   Continued support and active involvement with department heads and committees, including:
•   Gibson County Sheriff’s Department
•   Emergency Medical Service (EMS / Ambulance)
•   Gibson County Emergency Management (EMA)
•   Gibson County Fire

Fiscal Responsibility
•   Strong financial stewardship, working closely with county budget teams and the county commission to protect taxpayers and ensure responsible spending.

Economic Growth
•   Supporting Gibson County’s three Chambers of Commerce.
•   Partnering with local businesses.
•   Recruiting new opportunities with the Gibson County Industrial Development Director.

County Investment & Community Services
•   Active support of boards, staff, and volunteers across multiple departments, including:
•   Gibson County Memorial Library
•   Gibson County Fair
•   Gibson County Lake (Campground)
•   Gibson County Archives (Public Records Committee)

Partnership Leadership
•   Working collaboratively with elected officials, appointed department heads, the ten city mayors within Gibson County, and community organizations to strengthen local services and expand opportunities.
