Jackson Fire Department urges safe fireworks practices this holiday season
PRESS RELEASE:
Jackson Fire Department Urges Safe Fireworks Practices This Holiday Season
Jackson, TN — As New Year’s celebrations approach, the Jackson Fire Department (JFD) is reminding residents to prioritize safety when purchasing, storing, and using fireworks within the City of Jackson.Â
The New Year’s fireworks sales period in Jackson, Tennessee runs from December 18 through January 2, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.Â
Within the city limits of Jackson, TN, the approved fireworks use period is:Â
- December 28 through January 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.Â
- December 31, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. on January 1Â
Fireworks cause thousands of injuries each year, and seasonal conditions can increase the risk of fires. Cold temperatures and dry winter weather leave brown, dormant vegetation more easily ignited, making extra caution and safe practices essential.Â
Fire Safety FirstÂ
Residents are urged to follow these fireworks safety guidelines:Â
- Only use consumer fireworks approved by Tennessee state law.Â
- Never ignite fireworks near dry grass, structures, or flammable materials.Â
- Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire.Â
- Supervise all fireworks activity—especially when children are present.
Safe Storage TipsÂ
Proper storage can prevent accidental fires and injuries:Â
- Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from heat sources, open flames, or electrical equipment.Â
- Keep fireworks in their original packaging until ready for use.Â
- Never store fireworks near gasoline, propane, or other flammable liquids.Â
- Keep fireworks locked away and out of reach of children and pets.Â
Be Mindful of Pets and NeighborsÂ
- Many pets are sensitive to loud noises. Consider notifying neighbors if you plan to use fireworks nearby.Â
- Secure pets indoors during fireworks to prevent stress, injury, or escape.Â
- Be courteous about the time and location of your celebration.Â
Clean Up After the FunÂ
- Firework debris can clog storm drains and litter public spaces.Â
- Dispose of all fireworks properly; soak used fireworks in water before discarding them. • Help keep our city clean and safe for everyone.Â
