JFD partners with local volunteers for 4th annual ‘Shop with a Firefighter’
JACKSON, Tenn. — Station 5 of the City of Jackson Fire Department is partnering with volunteers from WoodmenLife Chapter 179 to sponsor a family for Christmas.

The firefighters previously responded to a call where a good Samaritan had pulled over to assist someone with a blown tire. While changing the tire, the good Samaritan was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling down the 45 bypass.
He was a father and husband, whose family the fire department decided to adopt this year for Christmas as this will be the first one the children will have without their father.
“We are very excited to be a part of it. Like I said this is our fourth year we’ve been doing it. It is very uplifting to see the kids with a smile on their face, it puts a smile on our face,” said Captain Jamie Peterson with JFD.
The firefighters and the volunteers from Chapter 179 will pair up with the children to take them shopping while other volunteers will assist the mother with some free groceries to help celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday.
