Hardin County officials provide winter storm update
HARDIN CO., Tenn.—Hardin County is still recovering from the Winter Storm with icy roads and many still without power. We spoke with Hardin County officials to get the latest.
The Hardin County EMA provided updates on conditions throughout the county. While main roads are mostly clear, some of the back roads remain icy with downed trees and power lines across the county.
As of early Sunday morning over 2,000 residents remained without power in the county. Several of the downed lines are in the most rural areas, making it difficult for workers to access. Crews remain working diligently Sunday in the East of the county and will continue working their way throughout the remaining areas.
For those in need of a warm place to stay, the warming center is currently open at the Hardin Co. High School Auxiliary Gym in Savannah. It will remain open until possibly Wednesday when officials will re-access conditions. They are currently accepting donations for the shelter and those in need.
“Right now, we have our shelter; Red Cross is managing it; taking care of everybody that’s in the shelter. But our community has our donation center on one side. And we’re taking up non-perishable food, water, easy pop top things that nobody has to cook, because they don’t have the electricity. So, we need those things if the community would like to bring them to the Auxiliary Gym at the high school (Hardin County High)” said LaRae Sliger, Hardin Co. EMA Director.
Some of the items accepted include water, crackers, granola bars, baby food, and items like plastic utensils, and toiletries.
