JPD investigating Officer-Involved Shooting

JACKSON, Tenn.—One person is in critical condition following a shooting in Jackson.
A WBBJ News Tipster alerted us to a large police presence in the area of East Lafayette and Royal Street. The tipster indicated the area was already taped off.
We reached out to JPD for more details and received the following information.

Jackson Police Department Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting
[Jackson, TN]— The Jackson Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier today.
At approximately 1:40 p.m., officers responded to a call in the area of 433 E. Lafayette Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 41-year-old male who was armed with a firearm. During the encounter, the individual was shot by officers.
The male subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in critical condition. No officers were injured during the incident.
In accordance with department policy, JPD has contacted General Jody Pickens with the District Attorney’s Office. At the request of General Pickens, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has been contacted and will respond to investigate the incident due to officers being involved.
This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
