Spring break performing arts camp underway in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Ned’s Spring Break Performing Arts Camp is underway this week for children ages 6 to 12.

The camp runs Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 20, with full-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Organizers say campers will learn theatre skills through games, scenes, and songs.

This year’s session drew roughly equal numbers of new and returning participants, according to Kristin Klonowski, performing arts manager for The Ned.

“This camp we were really excited to see that we were almost, I would say about half and half — half are new, half are returning to us,” Klonowski said. “So, what’s really fun about that is that our kids who have been here before, they sort of help lead the other children. And then that in and of itself is a wonderful lesson, we see them grow in confidence.”

Campers will practice performance skills in voice, diction, movement, and teamwork throughout the week.

The camp concludes Friday, March 20, at 6 p.m. with a performance of Disney’s Finding Nemo Kids.
