Sit and Read held at Madison County Courthouse
JACKSON, Tenn. — Summer is for fun. And for families and friends in the Hub City, that includes reading.
The Jackson-Madison County Library staff hosted a sit and read on the Madison County Courthouse lawn.
People gathered at 10:30 a.m. with their book of choice while enjoying the summer weather.
Organizers with the event hope to bring attention to some of the smaller things the city has to offer. You can read at your own pace, and they also offer a story time for kids.
That is a choice that organizers say will be beneficial for children before returning to the classroom.
”I think it’s great for kids to see in any way that reading is valuable and everybody does it,” said Jennifer Kilburn, the Children’s Librarian. “That helps them later on through their schooling and everything to feel more comfortable with books and reading.”
The next sit and read will be held on July 9 at 6 p.m. in Liberty Park.
