Elderly man dies in Chattanooga house fire
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Flames whipped by high wind quickly spread a house fire in Chattanooga and killed an elderly man. Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said the fire was discovered late Sunday night on the back porch of a home where a couple and the wife’s elderly father lived. The husband grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to douse the flames, but they had become too intense. The wife was unable to get her father out and firefighters later found his body on the floor, near the front door. The couple escaped with singed hair, but were otherwise unhurt. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
