Madison County Fire Chief talks common causes of house fires
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — National Fire Prevention Week continues.
This year’s theme is “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.”
Firefighters all over the country are celebrating 100 years of Fire Prevention Week.
With proper preparedness, you can help keep your family safe from fire.
Two easy steps you can take are testing the smoke alarms in your house and creating and practicing a fire escape plan.
Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner says the main cause of most fires start in the kitchen.
“A large amount of our structure fires are caused by people cooking, unattended a lot of times, starting supper and walking away from it, and a lot of times that’ll cause it,” Chief Turner said. “But we’re coming upon the time of year it’s our busiest season for fires, especially residential fires from the different heat sources and things like that.”
National Fire Prevention Week runs until Saturday.
