Downtown Dogs Group honors Jackson Police Dept. K-9 unit
JACKSON, Tenn. — Downtown Dogs Group presented a new award to the K-9 unit of the Jackson Police Department. The no-kill pet rescue honored the K-9 unit with the Special Service Award. Since its inception in 1990, the K-9 unit has played an important role in helping keep the community safe, according to a release from the police department. “These outstanding dogs and their excellent handlers work tirelessly to protect the public from criminals and criminal activity,” the release states. “Each dog is trained for one or more duties such as detecting drugs or explosives, or tracking and apprehending suspects.” Sgt. Brandon Moss of the K-9 unit serves on the board of directors of Downtown Dogs Group, and the unit has attended every event where the group has requested their presence, according to the release.
