160th West Tenn. State Fair opens its gates

JACKSON, Tenn. — The gates of the 160th West Tennessee State Fair opened Tuesday. Fair officials cut the ribbon on the annual event at 5:15 p.m. and the gates opened fifteen minutes later. Once again the fair is at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park near downtown Jackson. Organizers said this year there are new food vendors, seven new rides, new attractions in the livestock area as well as some old favorites when it comes to entertainment. One thing visitors are sure to notice is a change in the layout of the path to get through the fair. “The circle is much bigger,” Fair Manager Mike Peery said. “There’s no area where you have to go somewhere and turn around and walk the same path.”

Hundreds of West Tennesseans made their way out for opening night. Attendees said they come out not just for the food and rides but for the fellowship. “So many people come here to visit and see each other,” Belinda Mays said. “Families are able to come and have such a wonderful time.” The fair continues until Sunday.
