Haywood’s Gooden delaying trip to Mississippi State
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. – Haywood defensive lineman Emmit Gooden won’t be suiting up for the Mississippi State football team in the fall.
The 2015 Mr. Football Winner announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he’s enrolling at Holmes Community College in Mississippi.
“With the new rules for the 2016 NCAA, I was going to be an academic redshirt at Mississippi State so I couldn’t participate in none of the events,” Gooden told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness Sports.
Gooden added that the plan is to only be at Holmes Community for a year.
“Should be at Mississippi State in 2017,” Gooden said.
Gooden committed to Miss. St. on Dec. 17 in the school’s cafeteria.
