Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Wendy Bowers
ADAMSVILLE, Tenn. — Wendy Bowers became a teacher a little later in life. She went back to school in her 30s to obtain her teaching license and says she did so to improve the education system.
“I had some great teachers but I had a few that just really, you know, they weren’t what they needed to be, and I wanted to help change that for other children,” Bowers said.
Bowers said it’s a blessing to be teaching at Adamsville Elementary School because it’s near her home.
“Honestly, it was by the grace of God I was sent here because I live in the middle of McNairy County and I could’ve been sent to any of the schools. But it was just where I was chosen to be sent.”
Bowers said she has a great line of communication with her student’s parents and that they like be involved. “One of the parents donated our guinea pig, Miley. They love her. When she goes home with me and doesn’t come back soon, they get upset. ‘Where’s she at?'”
Bowers will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. Starting in April, to vote for her or any of the other nominees, visit seehowitaddsup.com. To nominate a teacher for our weekly award, email us at educator@wbbjtv.com.
