Chester County Ag Day give students hands-on experience outdoors
HENDERSON, Tenn. — Students got outside for a hands-on experience for Chester County Ag Day.
The event is presented by 4-H and community members, showcasing different aspects of the agricultural industry.
Agriculture plays a vital role in Tennessee, with more than 40% of its land being farmland.
This day is held each year to educate students on the importance of our agricultural industry and to give them the opportunity to experience it for themselves.
“When I first started working, I’ve been working in Chester County now for UT Extension for seven years, the first year I started here we had ten students in high school agriculture and now we’re reaching close to 200,” said Steve Rickman, County Director for UT Extension-Chester County. “And I think a lot of that stems from these Ag Days because kids come out here, they get excited about all the world of agriculture, and when they get to high school, they want to be a part of it.”
Tuesday’s event had about 750 students and 25 teachers.
