Friends remember couple killed at Selmer car show

CORINTH, Miss. — Friends and co-workers of the engaged couple killed in a tragic car show crash Saturday share the stories they will remember about the duo.selmer couple killed

“My father kind of got him set up in business down here about 15 years ago,” Dwayne Mclemore said.

Mclemore and Michael Johnson restored cars in the same business building. “He was real particular about his work. Obviously his work is just top notch,” Mclemore said.

Johnson, who died along with his fiancee, Sherri Duncan, at the Rockabilly Highway Revival Festival in Selmer, owned and operated the classic car restoration business Hot Rod Shop LLC.

State troopers said a vehicle went through a barricade and struck Johnson and Duncan at a Selmer intersection before striking three other vehicles.

“The whole car restoration industry has lost a good man,” Mclemore said.

On Monday, a handwritten note hangs on an entry door at the garage saying the business is closed for the rest of the week due to a death in the family.

Mclemore said the half dozen employees at the restoration business are still shocked over the loss of their boss.

Co-workers confirmed Duncan worked at the Frix-Jennings Clinic in Henderson.

In a statement released to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that was given to the clinic staff from Dr. Carey Frix, Duncan is remembered as “one of those people who, no matter how bad your day was going, seemed to make your day a little better when she came around.”

Dr. Frix also adds Duncan had an infectious smile and enjoyed joking around.

The statement said Duncan worked in the clinic for seven years. She is the first FJC employee to meet an untimely death, according to the release.

Mclemore said the couple regularly enjoyed going to car shows together.
