JACKSON, Tenn. — Domestic abuse charges against a  Madison County deputy were dismissed Monday afternoon in Jackson City Court.

Michael King was arrested in April for aggravated assault domestic abuse after his wife said he tried to strangle her during an argument.

In the courtroom Monday afternoon, Judge Blake Anderson said “the charges will be dismissed and will be expunged.”

King’s hearing lasted for less than five minutes.

The case against King was dropped and will be removed from court records. According to Assistant District Attorney Mike Mosier, “after looking at all the options with King’s wife, they decided to drop the charges.”

Tom Mapes, public information officer with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, says King has been suspended without pay since the incident occurred.

Although the charges have been dismissed, it is too soon after the judge’s decision to determine if King will be reinstated.

We spoke with King after the hearing and he declined to comment. King’s attorney and his wife, Tracey, also declined to comment.
