Gibson County commissioner stepping down, cites health reasons

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn.-A Gibson County Commissioner announces she is stepping down.

District 6 Commissioner Donna Bivens submitted her resignation on July 1, saying she is leaving office due to health reasons.

In her letter, she recommends her husband be able to serve out the remainder of her term. But officials said her seat will remain vacant until the next election.

“If you look at the Tennessee statues, it said that within so many days, of an election that instead of appointing someone to fill out her term
that it will be in the net upcoming election which will be the presidential election in November,” said Greg Pillow, director of finance for Gibson County.

Applications to run for the Gibson County Commission District 6 seat are available until August 20.
