Black Lives Matter protest is today in Lexington

UPDATE — The protest has been delayed until noon due to rain.

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Organizers are set to hold a Black Lives Matter protest today in Lexington, the sheriff has confirmed.

Black Lives MatterHenderson County Sheriff Brian Duke says officials with his office have met with the organizers of the protests and that the meeting went well.

The protest is planned to begin around 11 a.m. at Beech Lake where protesters will march along West Main Street to the traffic light at West Church Street and then back to the lake.  The organizer estimates 60 people at the most will attend.

Duke says some counter-protesters are also expected.

There will be over 20 deputies and another 20 or so officers from the Lexington Police Department on hand, according to the sheriff.
