Lightning sparks fire at historic church in Trenton
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Fire crews responded Friday afternoon to a blaze at the old First Baptist Church in Trenton.
Officials with the Trenton Fire Department say lightning struck the back of the church, which started the fire. They say they were able to quickly put out the blaze.
Fire Chief Terrance Elam says one firefighter was injured when he was shocked by hanging power lines. Elam said the fireman is not believed to be seriously injured but may be hospitalized overnight for observation.
There is no word at this time on the extent of his injuries.
The church is a historic building and has been vacant for 15 years, according to the department.
