Man charged in the death of TDOT employee

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the name of the man charged in the death of TDOT employee, James “Pee Wee” Hopkins.

James Thomas Greene, 78

Officials say that 78-year-old James Thomas Greene was driving westbound on State Highway 88 near Brims Road when he failed to observe signs of road workers present. He then struck Hopkins throwing him nearly 30-feet, resulting in his death. Greene’s vehicle traveled about 150-feet before coming to a complete stop.

Greene is charged with his third DUI offense, vehicular homicide and due care law. He has been released on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be in court on September 29 at 1:30 p.m.
