Scattered Weekend Storms, Wetter Next Week

Weather Update – 10:30 p.m. Friday

Very little rain is expected past sunset though an isolated shower is not out of the realm of possibility. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy again overnight with light southeasterly winds which should keep low temperatures to the middle 70s. More rain is in the forecast for the weekend and next week with a potential for some areas of northwest Tennessee to encounter localized flash flooding on Sunday.

THIS WEEKEND
A cold front moving southeast toward West Tennessee this weekend will increase rain chances for Saturday and Sunday but, like yesterday, the models have continued to suggest that the heaviest and most widespread rain will fall near and west of the Mississippi River and along and north of the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Parts of West Tennessee north of I-40 have the highest potential for heavy rain over the weekend. The latest models are suggesting that parts of West Tennessee near the Tennessee River will get a half inch or less whereas areas near the Mississippi River could get 2″ this weekend.

If you have any outdoor plans, don’t cancel them! Instead, just have a backup plan in case the showers start coming your way. High temperatures will reach the middle and upper 80s both days.

NEXT WEEK
The cold front will finally get closer and closer to West Tennessee Monday through Wednesday increasing a chance for rain and localized flash flooding in the area. The good news is that if a lot of rain is spread out over several days, flash flooding becomes less likely.
