Haslam names Shelby County criminal court judge
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Gov. Bill Haslam has appointed Glenn I. Wright as criminal court judge in Shelby County.
The appointment Friday fills the vacancy created in the 30th Judicial District by the death of Judge W. Otis Higgs in February.
According to a news release, the 57-year-old Wright has been in private practice in Memphis since 1992. Before that, he served as an assistant district attorney and an assistant public defender in Shelby County.
He has handled more than 150 jury trials and death penalty cases.
In a statement, Wright says that “the legal community suffered a tremendous loss” when Higgs died, and he intends to honor his legacy with hard work and dedication.
