High school robotics team wins event in Ohio
JACKSON, Tenn. — A local high school robotics team, Jackson Area Robotics 2775V, won the Kalahari Signature Event in Sandusky, Ohio over the weekend.
There were 172 teams from all over the U.S. and Canada competing in this very challenging Vex Robotics competition.
The team is composed of Samuel McCarver (10th grader, Carroll County, homeschool), Maraki Hickey (11th grader, Madison County, Madison Academic), Clare Bernheisel (11th grader, Dyer County, Dyersburg High School), and Cynthia Grace Quinteros (12th grader, Gibson County, South Gibson County High School).
McCarver, Hickey, and Quinteros were able to make this weekend’s event. Samuel used his driving skills to bring home the winning banner and trophy for the second year in a row for the Jackson area club.
They teamed up with their alliance partners, Pronounce This, from Longmont High School in Longmont, Colorado to make it to the finals where they won the best of three rounds (losing round one and battling back to win games two and three).
By winning this event, they have been invited to compete in this year’s Vex World’s competition that is taking place in Dallas, Texas in April.
