FHU’s 2024 Bible Lectureships come to a close

HENDERSON, Tenn. — A local university hosted a week-long event.

Freed-Hardeman University just closed out its annual Bible Lectureships. It has been going on all week.
Throughout this week, including students, there were over 4,000 people on campus. They were able to come together and do many things throughout the week.

Lectureship Director Doug Burleson shared a little bit more about what happened.

“So we welcomed friends from literally around the world. Last year we had 36 states and six countries represented. We just welcomed a lot of friends to town to enjoy time of Bible study and fellowship and just bless this community, we hope,” Burleson said.

Burleson went on to tell us that their main goal this week was to come together and focus on the good things, to put everything that’s going on in the world to the side and come together to focus on the things that matter.

“Well our primary goal is to glorify God, but we also want to encourage each other, remind people that they’re not alone. I think that’s especially valuable when there’s so much bad news in the world. It’s nice to focus on the things that are good. This year in particular how the future can be bright if we put our faith and trust into the things that matter,” Burleson said.

Freed-Hardeman has a rich history of having events throughout the year where they bring a bunch of people back to campus to see each other again, to talk with one another for the first time in a long time, and to reconnect.

Burleson shared more about that history and why it’s important to the university.

“For years, people in the first full week of February have come together and enjoyed, not only studying but reminiscing and connecting and networking. So, there’s a long rich history of things happening like that on campus,” Burleson said.

Burleson said that each night they were able to come together, have dinner, and honor the people who truly deserved it.

They also had programs for kids of all ages, as well as Spanish-speaking lectures and sign language translators.
